The main goal of my art is to draw the viewer into a tiny snippet of the world around us. I especially enjoy capturing the interactions between animals and humans…be it humorous or touching.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from the University of Houston. However, my first love has remained painting/drawing. Over the years I have dabbled with acrylic paint, pastels and pen and ink. However, none of these mediums really grabbed my interest. In 2011 I read a book about colored pencils and decided to give them a try. I immediately fell in love with the medium. Some people find colored pencil way too time consuming and tedious. However, I love the challenge of building up all of the layers and blending the pencil so that it ends up looking like a painting! Most importantly, I love the fact that I can walk into my studio, pick up a pencil and get right to work. No mixing of paint and no messy clean-up when I am finished.
When I’m not creating art, I can be found knitting or working on my “farmlet.” I am a shepherdess and raise Babydoll Southdown sheep. If you would like to learn more about my farm and view photos of my adorable sheep, please go to www.kellanefarm.com.
I’ve been very blessed with a wonderful husband whom I have been married to for 22 years. He understands my need to create and never complains when the house isn’t tidy or dinner isn’t on the table. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive partner! We have two children – a 20 year old daughter and 14 year old son.
